When working with important documents or modifying critical files, it is important to back them up, if you want to avoid a sad situation. Backing up data manually is not efficient because you may forget to copy something to a safe location or something may go wrong due to human error. AceBackup can perform backup tasks automatically and they can be scheduled as well. It offers easy to understand features and you will be guided by wizards, which will make things faster.

If you installed any other software before, you shouldn't have any trouble with this one. The package is 4 and a half Mb large, which can be downloaded fast and the installation process is straightforward. System requirements or compatibility is nothing you need to worry about. The software can run without problems on all Windows versions, from Win 98 to Win 7.

You can navigate through your files and folders on the top half of the interface just like you would in a standard explorer window. The folders can be selected in a tree structure on the left and the sub-folders and files will be displayed on the right. The lower half of the window is where you will work most of the time. Here you can create, manage and run one or more backup tasks. Like your folders, the tasks you create will be displayed in a tree structure. Most of these actions can be performed with the aid of toolbar buttons, also found in the lower half of the window.

A backup task can be created with the aid of a wizard, after clicking the New button on the toolbar. The files can be backed up in proprietary or ASIS format, they can be encrypted, using various algorithms, and they can also be compressed. These settings can be made while navigating through the wizard's stages. The wizard will also let you schedule a backup task. It can be set to run on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, it can be set to run only once, at system startup, at log on or when the system is idle. There are many parameters to consider while setting up a schedule, which makes it very flexible. Your hard drive is not the only destination for the backups. You can also set the wizard to automatically upload the backup to a FTP, burn it to a disk or send it by email.

When the backup is created, it will be displayed in the lower half of the interface. You can run it right away by selecting it and clicking the Backup button on the toolbar. A window will show up, where you need to specify what files or folders to back up. After doing this, the program copies them, according to how you have set the backup task. Another way you can target files and folders is to click and drag them from the upper half of the window to the lower one. Once you place them, the same window will show up and you can launch the task immediately.

Pros

AceBackup provides useful backup features which are easy to understand. It can be installed fast and you can use it for free, without any kind of limitations.

Cons

There is no synchronization feature. Your data is safe with AceBackup. Without too much effort, you can use it to back up your files in a manner of minutes.
